Up And Out Without a Shout or Pout

Pressuring the children and yourself to rush through the up-and-out morning routine turns the day's new beginning into maddening frustration. And this hurry-up and pressure mode actually undermines your true objectives. Here is how to get up and out without a shout or a pout. Think of the morning as the springboard for the rest of the day. A calm, harmonious, loving morning experience at home sets the tone for what follows for the children and parents. Both children and parents feel better and do better, demonstrating a higher level of productivity and morale when the morning is a sane, loving experience. On the other hand, a stressful, strife-filled morning drains parent and child when the day has barely begun. The children and parents then perform at lower levels, despite the fact that the parent's intention pushing and fuming was to get as much accomplished as possible.

There is a better way. Make it your first priority to maintain your peace and poise throughout the morning routine. If the children dawdle or delay, keep your cool. Remember your purpose: to make this the happiest, most productive day possible for every family member. To achieve this objective, absolutely nothing is more important than you relating to your family members in a calm, confident, and harmonious way at the start of the day.

Understand that children under the age of six actually need to experience about 45 minutes of bonding with their home and parents before entering the workday schedule. So factor this into your morning plan. And have a plan! Be clear about the steps everyone needs to take and do as much preparation the night before as possible, including making lunches and laying out clothes. It also helps to routinely visualize the mornings flowing smoothly, as visualizing helps us to achieve all goals.

If you find things taking too long to get done, don't you allow yourself to become emotionally undone! If you lose your peace and poise you end up battling and butting heads, starting the day off on a very wrong footing. As in all cases, child discipline begins with adult's demonstrating self-discipline. Refuse to engage in debilitating power-struggles, negative complaining, or impatience. Focus on making the morning as successful as it can be so the day as a whole can be as successful as it can be. You achieve this as you calmly do what must be done to be as on time as is humanly possible. If you remain calm, you will find creative ways to make things work out with love; and they will work out well no other way.

The One Common Denominator

Whenever you encounter a challenge or a problem, it is valuable to search for the 'one common denominator.' Finding the one thing that is consistent throughout will help you to determine what causes the difficulty. Once you understand the cause, it will be easier to make the changes necessary for correction. In many situations, it can be challenging to find the common denominator. However, when looking at challenges and problems in your life, the common denominator isn't as hard to find.

When a problem or challenge is an obstacle in your life, look for the common denominator. The common denominator will be that one thing that is consistent in every situation. In your life, the common denominator is YOU! You are the one thing that is always present in every situation. This is very helpful to know. Once you understand that you are the common denominator, you can begin to figure out what you are doing to contribute to the problem or challenge. At one time I had the problem of always encountering rude salespeople. It seemed they were everywhere. Once I realized that I was the common denominator, I began to change my behavior and, amazingly enough, I now seldom encounter rude salespeople. I simply don't attract them into my life, and if one slips in, I am able to turn the situation around, or I simply turn around and leave.

I often help my clients find the common denominator in their lives. Once they realize they are it, I coach them to change their behaviors, beliefs and attitudes. A former client was having a very difficult time with her boss. She decided to quit her job and quickly found a new position. Unfortunately, within weeks she was experiencing similar challenges with her new boss. I suggested that she look at the common denominator, and when she did, she discovered how she was contributing to the problem. After adjusting her own behavior, beliefs and attitudes, she transferred into a new position with a boss with whom she got along. She realized that she was attracting certain types of managers. Once she realized how she was contributing to the problem, she was able to make the changes necessary to attract a more positive and supportive boss.

If you are searching for the common denominator in your life, you are in luck. You are it. Now that you know you are the only consistent factor in any situation, you can begin to figure out how you are contributing to your recurring challenges and problems. This is great news because, once you realize you are at least part of the problem, you can begin to change your behavior, beliefs and attitudes that are contributing to the situation. Keep in mind that you have to concern yourself only with you, not with anyone else. You are the only one you can change. So don't focus outside yourself. Focus on the common denominator. You will be amazed at the difference this process will make in your life.

Are you having trouble achieving your goals, or getting through a period of no success? Then take the time to learn how to set SMART goals. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Tangible.
SpecificSetting specific goals is the key to all sorts of success. Most folks know the story about the 1954 Harvard class where they measured those who made goals and those who did not. Each time they grouped the goal-oriented graduates into smaller and smaller groups: those who made goals every now and then, on a yearly basis, and on a monthly, weekly or daily basis, each subset of individuals ended up making more money, having free time and far more happiness than the others.

And guess what? The no-goal folks were left out in the cold and achieved almost nothing in comparison to those who set goals.
MeasurableThe more measurable something is, the easier it is to see if we've achieved, or not achieved, the desired outcome. If you're vague in your goals, and don't have a way to measure it, how will you know you've achieved it? You won't, it's that simple. So make sure your goal can be measured, and you're done with step 2.
AttainableWhen you set goals that are the most important to you, you will find a way to make them happen. That's a fact! You begin to find things that fit in with your goals, you develop a positive attitude, you work to develop new skills and abilities, and you somehow find the financial capacity to achieve them. You think of all the opportunities that you've left unanswered and you uncover new opportunities to help you achieve your goal.
You can do almost anything when you plan out the steps necessary to reach the goal, and set the time frame that holds you accountable to that goal. Things that never before were possible now are not only possible but are in fact probably, because you've learned and grown to match these tough goals. Listing your goals helps you feel better about yourself, as you learn to see yourself worthy enough to achieve these goals, that you deserve these goals, and you reach these goals!

RealisticDo you want to aim for something you'll never reach, or for something that is within your power? Remember, you have to be willing and able to do something, so make sure you're realistic in your goal setting. You definitely want to stretch and not set something you could do without effort, but if you know that there is absolutely no way you can physically run a 4 minute mile because you have arthritis, then don't make that your goal. Now keep in mind that with the Internet, e-mail, and the globalization of the marketplace that you can achieve more than you ever thought possible, there still may be things that just aren't possible. Don't set these as goals, set these as dreams, and point towards those. But set the attainable goals so you can get satisfaction from achieving more and more of your goals.
TangibleA goal is tangible when you can experience it with one of your five senses. That means if you can can taste it, touch it, smell it, see it or hear it. When your goal is tangible, or when you tie an tangible goal to a intangible goal, you have a better chance of making it specific and measurable and thus see it as more attainable to you.

So be SMART about your goal setting, read a book or 2 about goal settings, have others help you be more accountable to yourself for achieving these goals, and you will do more and be more than you ever dreamed possible!

We learn our lessons when we experience pain

Sutton When we look at a certain object, a painting for example – we won’t be able to appreciate what’s in it, what is painted and what else goes with it if the painting is just an inch away from our face. But if we try to take it a little further, we’ll have a clearer vision of the whole art work. We reach a point in our life when we are ready for change and a whole bunch of information that will help us unlock our self improvement power. Until then, something can be staring us right under our nose but we don’t see it. The only time we think of unlocking our self improvement power is when everything got worst. Take the frog principle for example – Try placing Frog A in a pot of boiling water. What happens? He twerps! He jumps off! Why? Because he is not able to tolerate sudden change in his environment – the water’s temperature. Then try Frog B: place him in a luke warm water, then turn the gas stove on. Wait til the water reaches a certain boiling point. Frog B then thinks “Ooh… it’s a bit warm in here”. People are like Frog B in general. Today, Anna thinks Carl hates her. Tomorrow, Patrick walks up to her and told her he hates her. Anna stays the same and doesn’t mind her what her friends says.

The next day, she learned that Kim and John also abhors her. Anna doesn’t realize at once the importance and the need for self improvement until the entire community hates her. We learn our lessons when we experience pain. We finally see the warning signs and signals when things get rough and tough. When do we realize that we need to change diets? When none of our jeans and shirts would fit us. When do we stop eating candies and chocolates? When all of our teeth have fallen off. When do we realize that we need to stop smoking? When our lungs have gone bad. When do we pray and ask for help? When we realize that we’re gonna die tomorrow. The only time most of us ever learn about unlocking our self improvement power is when the whole world is crashing and falling apart. We think and feel this way because it is not easy to change. But change becomes more painful when we ignore it.

Greeks tried to honor their Gods

By “humanist” is “meant those who published, annotated and criticized the texts, first Greco-Roman and classical, later neo-Latin, vernacular and medieval, inherited by western European culture from its various pasts” (Artful Crafts, M.Vickers and D.Gill, Oxford, Claredon Press, 1994 pp. 93-96). There has never been such thing as “humanist movement”, in philosophical or any other terms. The term “humanism” was used by a German educator, F.J. Niethammer, as a special program for study to be separate from scientific and engineering programs. Humanism itself begins in Europe in middle ages. Europeans, considering themselves as a united ethnic group with the origin in Middle Ages started to concern about classical literature – both Latin and Greek.
It is known that the Greeks tried to honor their Gods through sculptures, the Greek architects started to develop techniques based on the principles of rythmos and symmetria. Two orders – Doric and Lonic – were defined as having distinct and psy chological traits. The best examples of both orders are presented in Athenian Acropolis. Parthenon is the most important monument there, it is still a universal architectural and artistic symbol. The building is about 2,500 years and it was build to honor the city’s patron goddess – Athena, who brought the salvation in Persian wars. The dimensions of Parthenon are 30.9 meters by 69.5 meters. There are special internal Doris colonnades to support the roof, and the ceiling is 29.8 meters long and 19.2 meters wide, columns themselves are 10.4 meters high. Parthenon is decorated with marble sculptures internally and externally. On all four sides of the temple there are friezes, which depict the Procession of Panathenaea - the most formal religious festival in ancient Athens. There are depicted different battles, on the northern side they probably show the Trojan War.
On the eastern side all the gods of the Greek Parthenon are shown. The scientists state that the internal ceilings were deep blue and statues were colored brightly. Others think that the upper parts of the Parthenon were bright red and blue and the sculptures could stand out if one looked at them from below. On all four sides of the building are presented the figures of gods, beasts and more than 360 humans. The whole Doric Parthenon creates the illusion of perfection with the help of irregularities.
The Greek achievements were crucial for Western civilization, their art and architecture were of great importance for Romans and European and American artists within the 19th century. Greek literature, arts and religious and philosophical ideas served the basis for development of Western civilization.
Humanism itself was not a philosophy, but it did influence the historical and political ideas of the societies, served a background for development of arts and literature. Such historical treasures as Parthenon accumulate and store the important knowledge, connecting the achievements of ancient people with present reality.

Shaolin kung fu is not just about defending yourself against an attacker or inflicting bodily harm. Shaolin martial arts also stress discipline, respect for yourself and others, patience, and being humble even in victory. The mental training of Shaolin martial arts helps prepare the student for any events that may come. Being physically prepared for an altercation is good, but if you are not mentally prepared you will not be focused enough to use the tools that your body has. This is why Shaolin meditation is such an important part of the Shaolin martial arts training. Meditation may not be literally practicing your physical tools, but it allows your mind to make better use of those tools.

Keeping cool in a self defense situation is one of the best ways to ensure you will survive. Tough mental preparedness allows the body to be pushed beyond its physical limits. Out bodies can only do so much, but our minds allow for much greater feats. I am sure you have heard of "mind over matter" and the truth is that it works. When the Shaolin added mental training to their physical training the result was that their martial arts system obviously surpassed all others in application and practical results.

One form of Shaolin meditation is called "Chan" or "Zen". The Shaolin received the concept of Zen meditation from an Indian priest named Bodhidharma. What Bodhidharma did that was so unique was to introduce breathing patterns into the meditation. You see Bodhidharma would find that the Shaolin monks were falling asleep during their meditation, so he added the breathing exercises to help keep them focus on increase their mental development. To this day Shoalin Kung Fu practitioners still use Chan meditation and it has formed the basis of the Shaolin mental preparation and development.

The Shaolin monks would prepare their minds to withstand the most terrible conditions so that when faces with those conditions in the real world, they would be prepared instead of shocked. Knowing that you have the mental toughness and readiness instills a confidence that allows you to go into any situation ready to act without hesitating. Self doubt is the number one way to be defeated before the enemy has even thrown a punch.
Meditation also allows one to focus his inner energy into his actions. The Japanese call this Chi, and many Westerners have heard of it. The Chinese, however, call it Kiai. Kiai allows a Kung Fu student to do things their physical body alone cannot do. Developing control over your Kiai is a matter of intense mental strength and conditioning. While some people may scoff at the idea of Kiai, and it is true that it might be more of a mind over matter application than an actual force, but Chinese Kung Fu masters has demonstrated their control over their Kiai by doing physical feats that would otherwise be impossible.
